The three Claudes we'll use today
Claude Code Desktop
The Code tab inside the Claude Desktop app. Parallel sessions, Plan mode, MCP connectors, visual diff — all without opening a terminal. Mac and Windows.
Claude Design
Pitch decks, one-pagers, and UI mockups through conversation. Built on Opus 4.7, with export to PPTX, PDF, and Canva. Figma stock dropped 7% the day it launched.
Claude Cowork
An autonomous desktop agent for knowledge workers. Reads and writes local files, moves across Gmail and Drive, and handles multi-step tasks on its own. OSWorld score: 72.5%.

Pre-workshop checklist
3 days out
- Install the latest Claude Desktop (v1.2581.0 or newer). Mac or Windows, either works.
- Sign in with the Claude Max plan. Check that the Code tab is visible.
- If your laptop is managed IT, confirm install permissions with IT now, not on the day.
Day before
- Open the Code tab once, type "Hello" to verify the response.
- Test the venue Wi-Fi bandwidth. You want at least 10 Mbps.
Morning of
- Charge to 100%. Bring your external-display adapter if the room has HDMI.
- Notifications off. Slack and Teams on silent — we're going to be moving fast.
- A notepad for questions. Paper is fine.
.env for you, and rotate day-specific keys after the session. The app's Settings page handles all of this, so you won't edit a dotfile directly. See the API key hygiene guide.
